During the battle for the liberation of Marseille on the August 24th 1944, the tank Jeanne d’ Arc was hit and forced to stop at the place du Colonel Edon, with all of the three crew members killed. You can see the tank being left there on the way to Notre-Dame de la Garde. Marseille was free on  August 28, 1944.

When you arrive at the Cathedral you can see the scars of war on the walls.
