Many argue that at the beginning of WW2, France didn’t celebrate any major victory. Well, that is not entirely true!
From 10/06/1940 until 25/10/1940, the French army managed to stop the Italian advance to Nice because of this fort!
A huge defensive fortification, ironically built by an Italian company, is located in a strategic point, overlooking to town of Menton.
A 1.30 hour guided tour is operated by an enthusiastic French sergeant, showing the life underground and how the fort was operating. The tour is n French only unfortunately but it’s still a unique experience!
