The Australian soldier John Hunter was badly injured near Polygon Wood. His brother managed to drag him away from the battlefield for around 1km but didn’t make it. He was buried alongside with other 4 Australian soldiers.
In 2006 with the efforts of Johan, a local café owner and historian, managed to recover and identified with DNA method. Johan managed to raise funds and with a lot of personal work and persistence managed to build this amazing memorial! You can find the grave of J. Hunter to the nearby Polygon Wood cemetery.
Special thanks to Johan for showing us around, telling the whole story in detail and being the best history tour guide ever! Definitely one of the best battleadvisor gems!
